Linux System Engineer

The VIB Data Core is a key enabler of this mission, providing cutting-edge IT infrastructure and services to support our scientists. We tackle complex challenges in data storage, management, computational resources, and scalability, working closely with world-class partners such as the ELIXIR consortium, a European research infrastructure connecting life science resources.

To support our growing data-driven initiatives, we are seeking a LinuxSystem Engineer to join our Data Center Operations team. You will play a critical role in designing, configuring, and maintaining state-of-the-art IT infrastructure tailored to the needs of life sciences research.

• Install, maintain, upgrade and optimise the infrastructure that supports data-intensive research activities.
• Maintain and support our High-Performance Compute infrastructure.
• Extend our hybrid cloud storage offerings and data delivery.
• Ensure the security, compliance, and scalability of the IT infrastructure.
• Design custom infrastructure solutions for our scientists.
• Automate common tasks with Ansible and Bash, Python, PowerShell scripting.
• Identify trends and problems and plan changes to improve stability and optimize performance.
• Create and maintain documentation, knowledge articles and processes.

• A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Linux-based server or storage platforms.
• Knowledge of scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible).

Om onze groeiende datagedreven initiatieven te ondersteunen, zijn we op zoek naar een Linux System Engineer om ons Data Center Operations-team te versterken. Je speelt een cruciale rol in het ontwerpen, configureren en onderhouden van state-of-the-art IT-infrastructuur die is afgestemd op de behoeften van life-sciences.

• Installeren, onderhouden, upgraden en optimaliseren van de infrastructuur ter ondersteuning van data-intensieve onderzoeksactiviteiten.
• Onderhoud en ondersteuning van onze High-Performance Compute-infrastructuur.
• Uitbreiden van onze hybride cloudopslagmogelijkheden en data transfer.
• Zorgen voor de beveiliging, compliance en schaalbaarheid van de IT-infrastructuur.
• Ontwerpen van op maat gemaakte infrastructuuroplossingen voor onze wetenschappers.
• Automatiseren van veelvoorkomende taken met Ansible, Bash, Python en PowerShell-scripting.
• Trends en problemen identificeren en wijzigingen plannen om stabiliteit te verbeteren en prestaties te optimaliseren.
• Creëren en onderhouden van documentatie en processen.

• Een diploma in Informatica, IT of gelijkwaardige ervaring.
• Ervaring met Linux-gebaseerde servers of opslagplatformen.
• Kennis van scripting en automatiseringstools (bijv. Python, Ansible).
• Een kritisch-analytische instelling en probleemoplossend vermogen.
• Een proactieve en samenwerkingsgerichte werkhouding, met uitstekende communicatieve vaardigheden.
