Offer Description

One vacant position for a full-time Project Researcher (m/w/d) at the Chair of Functional Materials and Materials Systems at the Department Materials Science. Start from the beginning of March 2025 in an employment contract limited to three years. Salary Group B1 according to the Uni-KV, monthly minimum salary excl. Szlg.: € 3.714,80 for 40 hours per week (14 x per year), actual classification is according to previous relevant experience.

Research area:
The position is embedded in the research topic "Multifunctional thin-film alloys for water electrolysis". These materials represent a promising approach for renewable energy sources and to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. The focus of the scientific work is the combinatorial development of new sputter-deposited thin-film alloys that contain three to five chemical elements and have improved catalytic performance. The research work to be executed includes the variation of thin film composition, morphology and nanostructure through process parameters and development of synthesis-structure-property relationships through high-throughput synthesis and characterization as well as the use of machine learning approaches.

Requirements: 
·    Master degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or an equivalent degree in the sense of the desired qualification
·    Willingness and readiness to write scientific publications and to prepare a PhD thesis
·    High motivation and enthusiasm for new challenges in materials research, combined with self-organized and target-oriented way of working
·    Willingness to participate in teaching (e.g. support of bachelor- and master students)
·    Fluent in English in word and writing
·    Loyalty, reliability, ability to work in a team, effective communication skills

Tasks: High-throughput synthesis and characterization of multifunctional sputter-deposited thin films using combinatorial high-throughput synthesis and characterization. Establishment of synthesis-structure-property relations through property mapping and implementation of Machine Learning approaches.

Desirable experience in the following areas:
·    Knowledge in the field of plasma-assisted vapor deposition of thin films
·    Experience in the characterization of materials (e.g. electron microscopy, focused ion beam methods, atom probe tomography, X-ray diffraction)
·    Experience in Machine Learning
