About the Role
The Technical Officer, Research Support will play a vital role in coordinating all activities within the centralised Sterilisation and Wash Up Facilities, as well as supporting general lab maintenance. The role will work closely with researchers and the Technical Services team to provide an efficient service which ensures the University is adhering to Biosafety, Biosecurity and Work, Health and Safety Legislation, as well as manufacturer recommendations and Flinders University procedures.
The Technical Officer will be responsible for;
- Coordinating all activities within the centralised Sterilisation / Wash up Facilities including the operation of autoclaves and laboratory glasswashers.
- Ensuring ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the autoclaves and glasswashers is in line with manufacturers recommendations.
- Assisting in the maintenance of Work Health & Safety (WHS), PC2 (Biosafety) and BC2 (Biosecurity) compliance within the Sterilisation / Wash up Facilities and shared laboratories including record keeping and hazard management according to developed operating guidelines.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

About You
The successful candidate must demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills as well as a proven ability to work collaboratively and manage stakeholder relationships. They will have an ability to be proactive and to take initiative in problem solving.
The Technical Officer will also demonstrate the following key position capabilities, among others:
- Completion of a degree or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate a sterilisation and / or laboratory washup facility.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the cleaning, sterilisation, and handling of laboratory items.
- Demonstrated experience in contaminated waste handling requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge in WHS, PC2: Biosafety - Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) -Gene Technology Act and BC2: Biosecurity - Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) and the ability to accurately follow procedures.
- Demonstrated well-developed organisational skills, including an ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and develop reliable systems for record keeping
