The Opportunity
The School of Chemistry at Monash University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to advance encapsulation technologies through emulsion and microemulsion formation. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to novel encapsulation methods, optimize formulations, and characterize systems using advanced analytical techniques. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to explore applications in energy storage and contribute to technologies with significant industry and environmental impact.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop and refine novel encapsulation strategies, leading research projects in emulsion technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physical chemistry, colloid science, or a related field, with expertise in emulsion and microemulsion formation. A proven track record of publishing high-quality research papers and a passion for advancing your research expertise is essential. The successful candidate’s key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
The conduct of research under limited supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently and the production or contribution to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research
Involvement in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise
Limited administrative functions primarily connected with the area of research of the academic
Development of a limited amount of research-related material for teaching or other purposes with appropriate guidance from other staff
Occasional contributions to teaching in relation to their research project(s)
Experimental design and operation of advanced laboratory and technical equipment or conduct of advanced research procedures
Attendance at meetings associated with research or the work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected and/or at departmental, school and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees
Advice within the field of the staff member's research to postgraduate students
To be successful in the position, you will need to possess the following:
A doctoral qualification in chemistry or a closely related field.
Demonstrated analytical and manuscript preparation skills, with a track record of refereed research publications.
Ability to solve complex problems using discretion, innovation, and diagnostic skills/expertise.
Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, succinct reports and documents.
A demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy, and information handling.
A demonstrated capacity to work collegially with other staff in the workplace.
Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and specified university software programs, with the willingness to learn new packages.
Knowledge of basic characterisation methods (e.g., NMR, IR, DSC, TGA, XRD).
Experience in advanced characterisation methods (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, IFM).
Experience in materials synthesis.
Experience in emulsion technology is an advantage.
