Why Your Role Matters:
A Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level A) is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to their particular field of research.
The Centre for Social Research in Health offers a vibrant research culture in behavioural and social health. It undertakes and promotes exemplary research in health that informs and strengthens knowledge, policy and practice. The Vitalities Lab is a small research group of doctoral students and research associates within the Centre.
The project involves using qualitative and creative arts-based research methods together with social theory to investigate the societal drivers of the meanings and practices that shape public responses to the interdependencies between humans, microbes, social systems and ecosystems. Focusing on using creative methods and cutting-edge social theory as well as research translation and engagement strategies.
The role of Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to the leading Professor and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities Summary:
- Contribute as a team member in collaborative research with a focus to enhance the quality of research outcomes in the discipline area.
- Conduct research (as per the norms of the discipline) and enable research teams to create scholarly output that is recognised by peers.
- Contribute to a specific research project under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to development of research activities.
- Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets.
- Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities, e.g. literature reviews, data gathering and/or recording of results using appropriate research methods.
- Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required.

Skills and Experience Summary:
- A conferred PhD in sociology, anthropology, medical humanities, environmental humanities or cultural
- geography, involving the application of qualitative social research combined with social theory.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research
- with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and build effective relationships.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
